Minutes of Wolverton City Council Meeting
Pursuant to due call and proper notice, a meeting of the City of Wolverton Council was held on December 10, 2024. The meeting was called to order by Chad Erickson at 6:15 P.M. Council members present Jessica Nelson, Shawn O’Dell, Luke Kratzer and Josh Jensen.
Absent: Jessi Kappes
Also Present: Leroy Betz
Presentation:
Leroy Betz is wondering about street lights on hwy 75, knows there is a dispute between Xcel and Ottertail Power on who owns/maintains the street lights. He is frustrated with the lack of ownership on the issue of no light on the streets, and wanted to express he knows the conflict between city/power companies and knows that it has been an ongoing fight for years between the city and power companies, but wanted to bring up the issue. Maybe it’s time to get a lawyer involved? (Josh’s comment), or contact commissioner.
Minutes:
a. Josh Jensen moved to accept the November 12, 2024, minutes. It was seconded by Luke and carried, all in favor.
Bills & Claims:
a. Jess Nelson moved to accept the bills & claims. It was seconded by Luke and carried, all in favor.
Utilities: Letters were sent.
Correspondence: Reviewed
Engineer/Water/Sewer:
a. Jess Nelson moved to approve John K. to pick up a utility sink and replace the faucet in city hall garage and install at his hourly rate. It was seconded by Josh and carried, all in favor.
Parks:
a. Discussed No ATV/Snowmobiling signs on public property (aka-campground and parks)
Streets:
a. Chad did some snow moving at 1st snow in the problematic areas. Tim Poehls came through later as a quick “dry” ‘run to be sure equipment was working properly.
Mayor/City Clerk:
a. Chad contacted F/M diversion: same as before (no updates), except they have a meeting with MNDOT tomorrow December 11th.
b. Karl Johnson’s request-Discussion had of correspondence. Council after lengthy discussion of pros/cons, decided not to approve this request.
c. Council position- No word form 2 of the 3. Will find out for sure by January.
d. Add a New Resident packet to unfinished business.
e. Maintenance Position-Get aggressive with posting the job listing on online forums after the holidays.
f. Discussed increasing water and sewer charges $5 each in 2025. Josh Jensen moved to improve this increase. It was seconded by Luke and carried, all in favor.
g. Jessica brought forward for discussion: F/M diversion has put $ aside for communities affected by the diversion. Colfax received approx. $3 million for a venue. What can Wolverton benefit from? Her thought is to remodel the city hall, new wiring, plumbing, updating and retrofitting the office/meeting area (wet bar, better storage), utilizing the garage/shop attached to form a community room w/ kitchen, new AV system ect.

Motion to Adjourn: Josh Jensen moved to adjourn the December 10, 2024, it was seconded by Luke and carried, all in favor. Chad Erickson declared the meeting adjourned. The next Wolverton City Council Meeting will be held on January 14, 2025.
